Happy New Year to all FOYC members, fans, and supporters. Have you resolved to get more involved with your community? Or to spend more time outdoors in 2024?
The last YC Race of the season takes place on August 26th. More information and registration here. Yellow Creek State Park has the reputation of having some of the best mountain biking trails in the state. These are largely designed and maintained by our Friends of Yellow Creek volunteers and members of LHORBA. Participation in YC Monthly Races helps raise funds for trail work such as bridges and culverts, as well as other park projects.
Friends, enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. Community sailing begins this Wednesday and every Wednesday through Labor Day, at 4pm. Our volunteer instructors will help novices or those who need to brush up their sailing skills earn their US Sailing certification. Experienced sailors can “check-off” their skills and gain full access to the FOYC fleet.
In addition to sailing, members can access four Stand-Up Paddle Boards and three kayaks.
See the sailing information page for details on how to join Community Sailing or email FriendsOfYellowCreek@gmail.com with questions.
A year long project came to fruition this week at Yellow Creek. We now have a dock system allowing easy access and launch for our community sailing program.
FOYC has would like to thank our volunteers, members, and Get on the Water supporters. Special thanks go to the Indiana County Endowment for a 2019 grant.
We’d also like to recognize two area businesses for their generosity and flexibility in working with our non-profit. Brad Shadle (Shadco.com) regraded the sailing base cover; and Rod Gerber (LiasCrane.com) helped us gently relaunch our repaired docks.
If you are interested in getting involved with FOYC community sailing, please see the website or contact FriendsOfYellowCreek@gmail.com with questions. We offer weekly group sailing sessions (for beginner and experienced sailors) throughout the season, as well as access to shared kayaks and paddle boards.
Friends of Yellow Creek and PPFF would like to recognize the generosity of the Indiana County Endowment. ICE has awarded a $4000 grant in order to help us achieve our Get On the Water goals.
The grant supports access to sailing and kayaking at Yellow Creek by funding improves to the cove, reduction in siltation, regrading, and rebuilding of docks at the launch area.
The Indiana County Endowment (ICE) is proud to support projects of our community organizations that support cultural, ecological, social, educational, recreational and economic needs of our area. We were established in 1990 and our early patrons included Jimmy Stewart and his wife, Gloria. Our assets have grown, but only because of gifts, bequests and donations that are given to the Foundation.
