Public Hearing On Proposed Drilling in Yellow Creek Buffer Zone – 7pm, Monday, March 21st

Dear Friends of Yellow Creek:

We would like you to be aware that MDS Energy has proposed a Marcellus gas well within the Yellow Creek convservation zone.  This proposed drilling is approximately 1500 feet from the shore of the lake, and within 1/2 mile of both Boy Scout Camp Seph Mack and the DCNR cabins.   Many years ago, Indiana County established a buffer zone around the state park, thus the need for an exception before MDS could drill in this area.

Public Notice from the Indiana Gazette 3/11/2011: Notice is hereby given that on Monday, March 2011, the Indiana County Zoning Hearing Board will meet to consider an application from MDS Engergy, Ltd. for a special exception permit to drill a gas well in the Yellow Creek Park Zoning District. The hearing is scheduled for  7:00pm in the 1st Floor Conference Room of the Indiana County Courhouse ANnex (827 Water Street, Indiana, PA ) and is open to all concerned citizens.

FOYC has taken no formal position on Marcellus gas exploitation outside the park.  The zoning hearing board would, however, benefit from receiving public input from friends of the park.

What is a Puddle Duck Racer?

According to the designer,Shorty Routh:

*   The PDRacer is a one design racing sailboat that is basically a plywood box with a curved bottom, and is the easiest boat in the world to build. . . .  A simple hull can be made from 3 sheets of plywood, titebond II glue, and latex house paint. If you work hard for 2 weekends, you can go sailing on the 3rd weekend.

*   We use the same shaped hulls and go play with them together in fun and goofy ways, and sometimes for very serious racing.

*   Our boat is not just for racing, she is great for all sorts of other purposes – and in most states a boat this small does not need to be titled or registered. The hull shape carries 630 lbs. [A launch permit good for all PA State Parks costs $10; it can be purchased online or at state park offices.]
