Friends’ Kayak Rack
Thanks to volunteers for installing a kayak rack at the FOYC Community Sailing base. A group of seven volunteers installed a pair of racks on Saturday on the north shore. The original racks were built on the south shore for FOYC by Luke Hamilton for an Eagle Scout project.
Now the racks have been repurposed and are available for friends storage. Would you like to keep a kayak at the park? Are you on the wait list for the McFeeter’s Cove racks? We have 12 bays available on a first-come, first-served basis. Donations of $130 are accepted for a seasonal rack space. (April 15-October 31). In order to fairly meet demand, we limit any family to one slot. Please contact FriendsOfYellowCreek@gmail.com for more information. Kayaks are stored at the owners’ risk; we encourage you to use a cable to lock it to the rack.

Sailing 2019
Sailing season is around the corner. We will once again offer community sailing members access to FOYC boats at the Yellow Creek Sailing Base.
I’m happy to report that we have a new addition to our fleet. Have a look at the beautiful Sunfish sailboat at the right. Does this bring back memories of youth sailing? Come back to sailing. If you are experienced, you can quickly be certified and have unlimited use of boats in our fleet.
If you are rusty or a complete beginner, our instructor and community sailors will help you learn the ropes (literally).
Sailing base members are also able to use our SUPs (stand up paddle boards).

YC Monthly Mountain Bike Races – 2019 Dates Announced
Founded in 2010, this is the 10th year of the YC Monthly Races!
The races began as a way to introduce more folks to the cross country trail system that circumnavigates Yellow Creek Lake and also as a vehicle to raise funds and increase membership for Friends of Yellow Creek. We continue the race for those same reasons. All proceeds go toward FoYC memberships and payouts.
Two races are offered:
- A 20 Mile loop that includes all of the trails around the lake
- A 14 Mile out-and-back that takes in the majority of the south shore trails
Race Dates:
Registration Begins at 9:00 A.M.
Pre-Race Meeting 9:50 A.M.
Race Start 10:00 A.M.

IUP Honors College and LHORBA Join Forces on Trail Day
Last month, a group of over two dozen IUP (Cook Honors College) students joined FOYC volunteers and members of LHORBA to prepare mountain biking trails for spring and summer riding.
The volunteers helped clear brush off the trails, mulched newly planted trees around the parking areas, and scoured the south shore from the day use area to Grandma’s cove for litter. LHORBA folks also build a new access bridge to the trails, fording a muddy gully.
FOYC appreciates all the volunteers from various groups who come together to help improve the park.
Please check the FOYC website and Facebook pages or contact the Yellow Creek Park Office for information on future volunteer activities.
